Sustainable development

In a world constantly being confronted with environmental challenges, everyone needs to assume responsibility insofar as they can. Protecting the planet cannot be a simple declaration of intention: it is now essential.
Our environmental approach is formulated in this context

A PRODUCTION SITE THAT EMBODIES THE PRINCIPLES OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Our ultra-modern site founded in 2007 was built according to new standards of design and construction that ensure respect of the environment and ecological harmony, in line with the principles underlying the HQE (High-Quality Environment) approach.
Ninety-five per cent of CO² emissions are due to the burning of petrol, gas and diesel. At AMD, all production units exclusively run on electricity which significantly cuts down our carbon output.

ECO-DESIGN: AN ECOLOGICAL APPROACH FROM THE DESIGN STAGE AND THROUGHOUT THE PRODUCT’S LIFETIME

The point of the Eco-Design approach is that it addresses environmental issues according to a range of different criteria, from initial design through the product’s entire lifetime.
Our Quality Control Laboratory and ISO 9001 and 14001 Standards ensure consideration of environmental criteria before any product is created. The latest IFS guidelines have led to us broadening the lines of our commitment.

ENVIROMENTAL COMMITMENT: ISO 14001

We have built up an environmental management system in compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, for which we obtained certification in September 2016.

1. MANUFACTURING: INNOVATION TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT

For the first time in Europe: a zero-waste factory
In 2018, AMD will introduce at its Spanish plant the first production line in Europe that generates absolutely no waste in product design without any compromise of intrinsic quality.

Compact packaging
Well-conceived packaging is important too, and this is designed before any new product is designed—in line with the needs of the market.
Finally, all sachet packaging and box volumes have been optimised by means of a modern compacting process: 1/3 less volume cuts costs and makes transportation more efficient.

2. OPTIMISED, REGULATED DISTRIBUTION TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT

The main challenge! Our products are distributed with an ever-present preoccupation with reactivity and committed respect for the environment.
Two different logistics units for loading and shipping. Our production site’s location close to major shipping routes and roads facilitates exportation throughout Europe.
Daily truck loading schedules are compiled to optimise and regulate shipments.

3. UTILISATION: DERMATOLOGICALLY TESTED, LATEX-FREE PRODUCTS

All AMD protectors can claim to have been “Dermatologically Tested”.
To ensure users’ comfort and well-being.
Latex-free, our products are made from non-irritant materials.

4. END-OF-CYCLE – SORTING AND RECYCLING

It is also important to consider waste generated once the products have been used. We are always studying new ways of reducing, compacting and disposing of our products after use.

  • Much of the waste from our production site is recycled.
Sorting is based on separating the various different materials into clearly marked containers. All waste derived from paper pulp is recycled and oil-based waste products are processed and then burned to heat the premises.
  • AMD sachets are recyclable and the company has participated in the POINT VERT network since 2013
  • We try to select renewable and recyclable raw materials:
our polyester fibre is derived from recycled material and our cardboard boxes are made of partially recycled fibre.

IFS GUIDELINES: CHECKING OUR PARTNERS’ ETHICS AND COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

Since August 2016, the Rouvroy manufacturing site has had IFS certification. The International Featured Standards (IFS) is a comprehensive safety system with a uniform assessment protocol for supplier qualification and selection. It allows retailers to be sure that their products are safe and monitor the quality of the suppliers of products to which they attach their brand as distributor.
At AMD, production relies on a mutually beneficial partnership between suppliers and service-providers. It is up to us to check that they meet environmental and cost criteria by the granting of international certificates and labels.
Our suppliers are selected on the basis of the quality of their raw materials, the advantages of the partnership and demonstration of their commitment to sustainable development. Cost considerations only come into play after an assessment of such ethical aspects.
Paper pulp, the main natural raw material of manufacture, is derived from renewable forest under the aegis of a responsible international programme. Our pulp supplier has top-level IFS certification meaning that all of its produce comes from sustainably maintained forest. In addition, the pulp is shipped by sea, the least polluting mode of transport (certificate provided on request)

HUMAN RESOURCES: ANOTHER SPUR TO A REGION’S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Our presence has brought employment—more than 200 jobs since 2007—to a region officially qualified as deprived.
We are a socially responsible employer and we vet our collaborators with respect to the management, involvement, recognition, health and safety of their staff.
